Taking A Look Behind the Scenes
Both Theaterscoutings Berlin and the Performing Arts Program organize personalized tours led by local experts through the venues and locations of Berlin’s independent arts community. Anyone interested is welcome to contact Juliane Wieland from Theaterscoutings or Tubi Malcharzik and Catherine Launay from the Performing Arts Program directly.
Diversity & Anti-Discrimination
The main point of contact for diversity work in Berlin’s cultural sector is Diversity Arts Culture. Amongst other work, the team organizes antidiscrimination and empowerment workshops, advises cultural institutions and the Berlin Senate Department for Culture on questions of diversity and supports artists and cultural workers who experience exclusion in the cultural sector.
The pilot project FAIRSTAGE is dedicated to achieving good working conditions and a working environment at all publicly financed theaters in Berlin that is free from discrimination. Alongside the annual FAIRSTAGE conference, the project also organizes further education opportunities, publishes publications and hosts participation formats for the community.
The network Making a Difference promotes the self-determined work of disabled, Deaf and chronically ill artists in the field of dance. Residencies, co-productions, guest performances and the transfer of knowledge go hand-in-hand with peer-to-peer empowerment, awareness-raising and mediation formats.
Associations & Initiatives
Associations and initiatives play a fundamental role in the further development and growth of the independent performing arts community. They function as an advocacy group for the members of the community in politics.
Amongst others, associations representing the interests of the respective disciplines include Bundesverband Zeitgenössischer Zirkus (BUZZ, the German Federal Association for Contemporary Circus), Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e. V. (ZTB, the Berlin Contemporary Dance Association), Zeitgenössisches Musiktheater Berlin e. V. (ZMB, the Berlin Contemporary Music Theater Association), the Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste e. V. (Federal Association for the Independent Performing Arts) as well as LAFT Berlin — Landesverband Freie Darstellende Künste Berlin e. V. (the Berlin State Association for the Independent Performing Arts).
The Berliner Kulturkonferenz (Berlin Cultural Conference), the Rat für die Künste (Berlin’s Artist Advisory Council) and the Koalition der Freien Szene Berlin (the Berlin Coalition of the Independent Arts) work interdisciplinarily as mediators between politics and cultural practice.
